Find the Words Hidden in the Grid

Word Search is a classic word puzzle in which you locate words hidden among rows of letters. Each puzzle includes a word list and a letter grid. Your task is to find and mark every listed word until the board is complete.

Words may appear horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Depending on the puzzle, they may also be written backwards. Some words cross one another or share letters, so it helps to check the grid carefully.

How to Play Word Search

Choose a word from the list and look for its first letter in the grid. Check the letters around it to see whether they form the complete word in a straight line. Once you find a match, select the word by dragging from its first letter to its last. On a desktop computer, use the mouse. On a phone or tablet, swipe across the letters.

A correctly selected word is marked on the grid and removed or crossed out from the word list. Continue until you have found all the hidden words.

Tips for Solving Word Puzzles

Start with longer words because their letter patterns are usually easier to identify. Words containing uncommon letters such as Q, X, or Z can also be quicker to spot.

Scan the board one row or column at a time instead of looking at the whole grid at once. If a word is difficult to find, search for its first or last letter and then check every possible direction. Remember to look for diagonal and backwards words.

Themed Word Search Puzzles

Word search puzzles often group words by topic, such as animals, food, geography, sports, science, or holidays. Themed word lists can help players review spelling, learn new terms, and practise recognising vocabulary in context.

Puzzle difficulty may depend on the size of the letter grid, the number of hidden words, and the directions in which the words are placed. Smaller grids are suitable for quick games, while larger boards require more careful scanning.
