What is Spelling Bee?
Spelling Bee is a popular word puzzle played on a small, seven-letter honeycomb grid. In the middle of the hive sits one golden center letter, surrounded by six outer letters.
Your goal is to find as many words as you can using only those seven letters. It feels like a mix between an anagram solver and a classic word search, but with one big catch: every single word you make has to include that center letter.
How to Play and Core Rules
The rules are quick to learn so you can start guessing right away. Every word you submit must be at least four letters long, and you can reuse any letter as many times as you want in the same word.
Four-letter words give you one point each, while longer words award one point for every letter they contain. As your score climbs, you level up through different ranks, moving from Beginner all the way up to Amazing and the top-tier Genius rank. If you manage to find every single possible word on the board, you earn the ultimate title of Queen Bee.
Hunting Down the Pangram
The most satisfying part of any Spelling Bee puzzle is finding the hidden pangram. A pangram is a special word that uses all seven letters from the hive at least once.
Finding a pangram gives you a huge bonus of extra points and usually gives your score the boost it needs to jump to the next rank. Some daily puzzles even hide more than one pangram, so keep looking even after you find your first one.
Quick Tips to Score More Points in Spelling Bee
When you feel stuck staring at the board, look for common word building blocks instead of trying to guess full words out of nowhere. Check if you can add standard prefixes like UN- or RE-, or tack on easy endings like -ED, -ING, -LY, or -EST. If you find a simple base word, you can often turn it into three or four extra points just by changing its ending.
Another easy trick is hitting the Shuffle button. Rearranging the outer letters changes how your brain sees the honeycomb and helps you spot letter pairs you completely missed before. If you run out of long words, quickly clean up all the easy four-letter words to build up your baseline score.
The Perfect Brain Break for Your Day
Spelling Bee is one of the most relaxing ways to pass time while still giving your brain a light workout. There is no countdown clock rushing your moves, so you can guess a few words during a five-minute break, leave the tab open, and come back later with fresh eyes.
